Game Overview

Language is the real puzzle in this intimate fantasy visual novel, where peace may depend on understanding a prisoner no one else believes can be reasoned with. The Garden of Hermeneus casts you as a linguist assigned to study a caged beastman while human forces edge toward a disastrous war with the tribes beyond the frontier. Over the course of 90 days, a tense research assignment becomes a fragile relationship shaped by fear, curiosity, and the possibility that both sides have been lied to. Its atmosphere is quiet and melancholy rather than action-driven, with the pressure of an approaching conflict hanging over every conversation.

Progress revolves around choosing discussion subjects, observing the beastman’s responses, and gradually assigning meaning to his unfamiliar words. Context matters: expressions, repeated terms, emotional reactions, and the situation around each exchange help you turn a blank lexicon into a usable language. More than 100 conversation topics give the investigation structure, while successfully translated vocabulary unlocks scenes that reveal more about your companion and the political reality outside the room. A limited Inspiration resource can provide answers when deduction stalls, but because it replenishes gradually and may be restricted by difficulty settings, it works best as a safety net rather than a replacement for careful observation. Your growing dictionary also makes it easier to revisit earlier discoveries and reconsider the meaning of what has been said.

What separates it from a conventional branching visual novel is that understanding the dialogue is itself the central form of player agency. Instead of merely selecting the response that sounds nicest, you earn comprehension piece by piece, making trust feel built rather than automatically awarded. The enclosed setting and two-character focus create a deliberate, character-led experience reminiscent of language-deciphering mysteries such as Heaven’s Vault, though on a smaller and more personal scale. Eight endings encourage repeat runs and different priorities, making it a strong choice for readers who enjoy slow-burn emotional stories, deduction, and narratives about communication across seemingly impossible divides.
