Ardemia is a colorful fantasy land living under the threat of a spreading darkness, but its old-school adventure spirit keeps the journey from becoming relentlessly grim. Rio and Reima set out to rebuild the sacred Sword of the Shrine by recovering eight elemental gems, a quest that carries them across forests, towns, ruins, and monster-filled labyrinths. Their mission follows the familiar save-the-world shape of 16-bit RPGs, yet the story gives weight to the people caught in the conflict and the sacrifices its young heroes may have to make. Expect an earnest, character-driven tale with a strong sense of discovery rather than a cynical fantasy epic.

Combat plays out in real time, with the two-person party slashing, casting spells, managing equipment, and reacting to enemies instead of waiting through turn-based menus.
