Daily survival alternates between running the ship and leading expeditions into the wastes. Crew members can be assigned to construction, crafting, research, medical work, or gathering duties, while you develop essential infrastructure and decide which rules keep order when supplies run thin. Venturing outside means scavenging ruined houses, hospitals, rail lines, stores, and abandoned towns for materials, equipment, and leads, with hunting and combat providing additional ways to stay alive.
