You play Sid, an orphan raised inside Baldona, the war-hungry nation responsible for destroying his family, while he waits for an opening to strike back. A mysterious blue bracelet links him to Elphy, an astral princess seeking to reclaim the celestial power stolen by the empire. The tone moves between dramatic military intrigue, colorful anime comedy, and mature relationship scenes, so it is far from a straight-faced tactics campaign.

The Starborn Return sends Sid through six distinct regions, each with its own stages, enemies, recruitable allies, and visual identity. Battles revolve around tower-defense positioning: you deploy soldiers and creatures, account for their regional strengths, and stop enemy forces before they break through your line. Roughly 30 unit types give the campaign more tactical variety than a simple “place and wait” defense game, encouraging players to adjust formations and choose allies for each encounter. Outside combat, Sid builds bonds with the women he meets through relationship-focused activities, with stronger connections feeding back into their effectiveness and unlocking mature optional content.

Its strongest idea is the blend of an anime revenge narrative with a roster-building defense system, rather than treating romance and combat as completely separate modes. Chibi CG artwork keeps much of the adventure playful, while the main premise gives the campaign a more personal motive than the usual endless-wave tower-defense setup. The six heroines cover familiar but distinct character archetypes, from a beast girl and slime companion to an android and Sid’s adoptive mother, giving collectors plenty of personalities to pursue.
