Kay Vess lives in the grimy, lived-in corners of the galaxy far removed from Jedi heroics, trying to buy her way out of trouble with one last big score. Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, this third-person action-adventure follows a small-time thief whose debts and dangerous ambitions put her in the crosshairs of imperial forces and rival criminal syndicates. The tone lands somewhere between a classic Star Wars serial and a space-western heist story, with cantinas, back-alley deals, hostile frontiers, and plenty of room for plans to go wrong. Her constant companion, the animal-like Nix, gives the adventure personality while also serving as a crucial partner in the field.

Most missions let players choose between direct blaster fights, sneaking through guarded compounds, using gadgets, or sending Nix to distract guards and interact with distant switches. Kay’s reputation with groups such as the Pykes, Hutts, Crimson Dawn, and Ashiga Clan shifts according to the jobs she accepts and the factions she betrays, opening doors with one organization while making another more aggressive. Large planetary zones invite speeder travel, side contracts, treasure hunting, sabacc games, and environmental exploration, while the Trailblazer provides space travel and arcade-style dogfights against TIE fighters, pirates, and larger enemy ships. Progression improves Kay’s combat tools, stealth options, ship systems, and speeder, although success often depends more on scouting a location and exploiting an opening than brute force.

Its strongest feature is the fantasy of being an ordinary, vulnerable outlaw rather than an all-powerful Force user. The game favors dense, atmospheric destinations over one enormous uninterrupted map, making each planet feel like a distinct criminal playground with its own risks and visual identity. Ubisoft’s familiar open-world structure is present, so players expecting the systemic freedom of Star Wars: Outlaws to rival a sandbox like GTA may find it more guided, but its faction system and cinematic Star Wars presentation give it a worthwhile angle. Fans of Assassin’s Creed-style infiltration, Uncharted-like spectacle, and scoundrel-focused Star Wars stories find the most to enjoy, while newcomers can comfortably follow Kay’s self-contained tale.
