A blood-soaked 1980s slasher film becomes a clever grid-based puzzle in Slayaway Camp, where the masked murderer Skullface stalks a summer camp full of obnoxious teens. Its chunky voxel visuals make every murder look deliberately toy-like rather than realistic, balancing splatter with pitch-black comedy. The game embraces VHS-era horror clichés—reckless counselors, secluded cabins, useless authorities, and absurdly inventive deaths—while treating them as the setup for a surprisingly thoughtful puzzle challenge.

Each stage asks you to slide Skullface across a compact board, moving continuously in one direction until an obstacle stops him. The objective is usually to reach and dispatch every victim, but achieving that means planning routes around walls, campfires, water, traps, animals, and police officers who can end the run if approached carelessly. Kills trigger exaggerated voxel gore scenes, while environmental hazards often become weapons in their own right. Later chapters steadily complicate the formula with new board elements and tighter layouts, turning simple murder mazes into route-planning exercises where one wrong slide can force a restart. Controls remain approachable, and quick resets make experimentation painless when a solution goes wrong.

What separates Slayaway Camp from standard Sokoban-style puzzlers is its commitment to the slasher-movie presentation. Levels are framed like scenes from a lost straight-to-video horror franchise, complete with campy narration, retro presentation, ridiculous violence, and a large selection of unlockable killer masks that reference genre icons without losing the game’s own identity. The cute voxel art also keeps the material more cartoonishly macabre than genuinely disturbing, though the premise is unapologetically built around horror violence. Fans of Friday the 13th, old-school VHS horror, and tightly designed sliding puzzles get the most from it, while puzzle veterans find a satisfying challenge beneath the deliberately trashy presentation.
