A collapsing republic, a runaway artificial intelligence, and the threat of nuclear winter give PROJECT TACHYON a suitably desperate sci-fi edge. You play Sigma, an operative sent through time after the Mainframe OMEGA rebellion devastates the Tamageria Republic. Rather than treating time travel as background flavor, the story uses it to frame repeated runs: Sigma remembers what happened, gathers evidence from ruined futures, and returns to alter the chain of events. The result is a fast, grim action roguelite with an unfolding mystery beneath its arcade-ready combat.

Combat blends close-range aggression with careful positioning. Sigma can swap between randomly encountered weapons during a run, using options such as bullet-cleaving saws, corrosive sprayers, and ranged firearms to answer different enemy threats. Melee tools are not merely for damage; they let you deflect or withstand incoming fire, while guns create breathing room against crowded arenas. Each attempt sends you across shifting routes where you decide whether to preserve resources for a major encounter or gamble on tougher paths for better rewards. Between fights, you assemble builds from more than 200 genes across ten categories, stacking synergies while risking harmful mutations that impose punishing conditions if their demands are not met.

The gene system gives PROJECT TACHYON more personality than a straightforward run-and-gun roguelite, since power always arrives with the possibility of a dangerous complication. Weapons can be unlocked through objectives, improved over time, and modified to support radically different playstyles, making failure feel like progress rather than a dead end. Huge mutant bosses break up the smaller skirmishes with patterned attacks and encounter-specific hazards that reward learning their tells. Its character writing also benefits from the looping structure, gradually exposing histories and tensions that Sigma alone can fully understand. Players who enjoy the build experimentation of Hades or Dead Cells but want a more futuristic, weapon-focused combat loop should find plenty to work with here, especially if they enjoy demanding boss fights and story clues revealed across repeated runs.
