Mekazoo

A bright mechanical menagerie powers a brisk, old-school platforming adventure built around momentum, timing, and smart character swapping. Mekazoo takes place across colorful 2D routes set against layered 3D backdrops, giving its stages a toy-box sense of depth without abandoning the precision of a side-scroller. The tone is cheerful and energetic rather than punishingly grim, but its rapid pace and secret-packed levels demand real concentration. Its strongest appeal comes from treating each robotic animal less like a cosmetic mascot and more like a completely different way to move through the world.

Players guide a pair of animals at once, instantly switching the active creature to chain abilities together while the partner follows along. A wallaby springs across large gaps, a frog clings and leaps through vertical spaces, a panda smashes barriers, a pelican glides through the air, and an armadillo curls into a fast rolling force; learning where to use each form defines the platforming loop. Stages mix conventional jumps with hazards, moving machinery, alternate paths, collectibles, and sections that reward maintaining speed rather than stopping to cautiously test every ledge. Checkpoints keep the challenge manageable, although later sequences expect sharp reactions and a solid grasp of the game’s momentum. Local co-op changes the formula by letting two players control one animal each, turning coordination into part of the obstacle course.

Its tag-team design gives Mekazoo an identity beyond its obvious 1990s platformer influences. Switching animals mid-run creates satisfying little combos, especially when a level asks for a launch, glide, roll, and ground-pound in quick succession. The animated machine creatures, vibrant environments, and driving soundtrack keep the action readable even when the screen fills with moving parts. Fans of Donkey Kong Country, Sonic’s faster routes, or character-based platformers should find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers may appreciate the accessible controls before the later stages begin testing their reflexes.
