Game Overview
A five-soldier squad stands between humanity’s last footholds and an ocean of fast-moving alien life, turning every mission into a desperate exercise in battlefield control. Infested Planet is a real-time tactical strategy game built around overwhelming numbers rather than disposable armies: your tiny force must hold lines, evacuate civilians, recover supplies, and burn alien hives before the swarm closes in. Its tone is tense but readable, with clean top-down visuals that make thousands of crawling enemies easy to track even when the screen becomes a moving wall of teeth and shells. Success rarely comes from reflexes alone; it comes from making smart retreats, securing defensible ground, and knowing when to sacrifice territory.
You command squads directly, issue movement and attack orders, place automated turrets, and establish temporary fortifications while specialists carry out objectives under pressure. Missions reward careful positioning, since chokepoints, elevated firing lanes, flamethrowers, mines, artillery, and line-of-sight all matter when the aliens attack from several directions at once. Between operations, the campaign steadily expands your toolkit with weapons such as laser rifles, grenade launchers, miniguns, stealth gear, and heavy support structures, letting you shape squads around particular threats. The opposition refuses to stay predictable: randomly selected mutations can give bugs armor, speed, explosive deaths, projectile resistance, or other traits that force a change in tactics rather than a reliance on one favored loadout.
What separates Infested Planet from many RTS games is its focus on small-unit problem solving amid truly enormous enemy counts. Procedurally generated maps and changing mutation combinations keep repeat runs from feeling solved, while adjustable settings allow players to tune enemy strength and swarm size for a more methodical or punishing experience. It carries some of the defensive panic of They Are Billions and the squad-level decision-making of classic tactical RTS titles, but its missions are quicker and more focused than either. Strategy veterans who enjoy improvising under pressure will get the most from it, though newcomers can learn its clear systems gradually through the campaign.
