ICARUS blends first-person survival crafting with mission-based extraction, sending prospectors down from an orbital station to hunt rare exotics, fulfill contracts, and escape before the window closes. Toxic air, violent storms, hostile wildlife, and a demanding hunger-and-exposure system give the wilderness a harsh, grounded mood rather than a fantasy survival gloss. Success means more than staying alive; it means getting off-world with the resources and research needed to fund the next drop.

Each prospect begins with choosing a landing zone and objective, then quickly gathering wood, stone, fiber, food, and water before building shelter and crafting essentials. Players progress through extensive tech trees for tools, weapons, armor, farming, electricity, and high-end machinery, while character talents and workshop gear provide longer-term specialization. Hunting can supply valuable materials but also attracts predators, and weather regularly forces groups to rethink routes, reinforce buildings, or wait out disaster. Up to eight players can cooperate online, dividing jobs between builders, scouts, hunters, and miners, though solo runs remain viable for patient survival fans.

The extraction structure is ICARUS’s strongest idea: a successful mission is not simply about accumulating loot, but judging when the reward outweighs the danger of staying longer. Its dense crafting ladder and deliberately slow early survival recall Rust, Valheim, and The Forest, but the sci-fi prospecting framework gives each session a clearer purpose than an endless sandbox. Open World maps and permanent bases offer a less pressured alternative to timed contracts, while mission runs retain the tense appeal of preparing for a specific job.
