Game Overview

Running an adventuring guild feels less like commanding heroes and more like managing a volatile sports club where every fixture can end in a funeral. In a kingless fantasy realm, your hall recruits delvers, signs them to contracts, and sends them into competitive dungeon expeditions while rival organizations chase the same prestige. The long-term prize is the Crucible, a symbol of rule that turns a successful guild into the power behind the realm. Its tone mixes the cold calculation of a management sim with the personal sting of a campaign where a promising veteran can vanish in a flooded ruin.
Rather than controlling attacks directly, you assemble a party, assign behavioral orders, choose equipment, and watch the expedition play out. Terrain and conditions matter: darkness compromises ranged specialists, difficult ground affects movement, and the right combination of nine classes and ten races often matters more than raw ratings. Parties begin small and expand as the guild rises through six divisions, with league trials sending competing teams through the same dungeon before a possible final-room clash. Recruitment, transfer dealings, loans, training, youth prospects, mentors, and contract negotiations provide the constant off-dungeon loop, while permanent injuries, retirement, sales, and death force difficult roster decisions.
Its greatest strength is the effort put into making delvers feel like people rather than interchangeable statistics. Each adventurer carries beliefs, flaws, ambitions, relationships, grudges, scars, and a finite career, while fallen members receive lasting memorials and exceptional survivors can become Dungeonborn. Beyond your own hall, 72 active rival guilds occupy towns across seven regions, pursuing signings, feuds, wars, and their own fortunes whether you are watching or not; your hometown can also grow, require defense, and eventually house retired veterans. Players who enjoy Football Manager’s emergent stories, Darkest Dungeon’s attrition, and hands-off tactical planning should find plenty to obsess over, while customizable starting conditions and a no-league Cozy Mode make the experience approachable for less competitive guildmasters.
