Center Ice Hockey puts speed and contact at the front of the experience. From the first face-off, the pace is high and the hits are heavy. Players rip slapshots from the point, thread elevated passes through traffic, and finish checks along the boards with a satisfying crunch. Fights break out when tempers flare, which fits the old-school tone the game is going for. After downloading and running it on a mid-range Windows 10 machine, I noticed the game boots almost instantly and drops you into the menu without any launcher overhead. That is a welcome change from modern sports titles that take minutes to load.

The core loop is straightforward but demanding. You control possession, open shooting lanes, protect your crease, and try to outscore the opposition before the final horn. Passing, shooting, body checking, and positioning all feed into the outcome. The rule set keeps things grounded in real hockey, so it never devolves into a pure brawler. Exhibition games let you jump in immediately, while the 32-team season mode gives you standings, schedules, and a longer campaign. Career mode is where the game shows its most interesting idea: you create an athlete, distribute skill points, improve across multiple seasons, and can even earn a spot on a national team. Friends can bring their own created players into that same career squad, which gives the long-term mode a co-op sports-RPG feel that most hockey games never attempt.
