A grim castle siege anchors this gothic roguelike deckbuilder, where every climb toward a tyrant’s throne is a calculated gamble. Deliverance & Reign offers two opposing perspectives: lead a hero’s assault to end Alaric’s rule, or take the role of the despot and protect his reign. The result is a dark, tactical card game with a strong risk-versus-reward streak, built around repeated runs, hard choices, and the constant threat of being overwhelmed. Rather than presenting one campaign with a token alternate ending, its two modes maintain separate progression, saves, and achievements, making each side feel like a substantial challenge in its own right.

In Deliverance mode, players choose from six classes, each defined by distinct starting cards, loadouts, strengths, drawbacks, and a dedicated resource to manage. Runs involve fighting through monster-filled floors, assembling stronger combinations from skills, weapons, artifacts, and blessings while deciding which cards and rewards actually improve the deck instead of diluting it. Every floor ends with a crucial choice: bank your haul by retreating, or push onward toward better rewards and much greater danger. Four escalating floors lead to boss encounters, while time pressure prevents overly cautious play by unleashing nastier creatures if you linger too long. Reign reverses the premise, putting players on Alaric’s side in a separate but connected mode that supports the game’s central Good-versus-Evil theme.

What stands out is the willingness to make retreat a meaningful strategic option rather than treating every failed push as wasted time. Deckbuilding fans who enjoy the disciplined card selection of Slay the Spire, but want a more overtly gothic fantasy setting and sharper attrition mechanics, have plenty to dig into here. A broad pool of class skills, equipment, relics, enemies, and bosses gives runs room to develop differently, while 15 Hell Layers provide serious modifiers once the standard challenge no longer bites. Newcomers can learn through the clear class-based structure, but veterans looking for demanding roguelike optimization and escalating difficulty are the audience most likely to stay.
