Game Overview

Medieval Iberia becomes a densely focused grand-strategy sandbox at the moment Sancho III’s death splinters Navarre and Córdoba has fractured into competing taifas. Crown of Hispania casts you as a noble navigating the Christian north and Muslim south, where a marriage pact, council dispute, or ambitious campaign can redirect a dynasty’s future. Its mood is political and ruthless rather than heroic: religious friction, feudal rivalry, and opportunistic warfare all demand attention as you pursue a crown—or simply try to survive among stronger neighbors.

Campaigns revolve around expanding and securing your realm through war, diplomacy, marriages, construction, trade, decrees, and court politics. Armies move across the map without being locked to province-to-province routes, allowing flanks, positioning, interception, and terrain-aware maneuvers to matter more than in many map-painting strategy games. A simulated population system underpins culture and faith, with communities growing, relocating, converting, and reacting to the way you govern them; conquest therefore creates political problems beyond changing a border color. Council missions, internal power struggles, economic development, and technological growth give quieter rulers plenty to manage between battles.

Its strongest selling point is the decision to concentrate on Iberia rather than stretch across a shallow world map, using more than 300 handcrafted provinces shaped around the peninsula’s geography and nearby regions. The combination of character-driven feudal politics, population simulation, and free army movement aims for a middle ground between Crusader Kings II’s dynastic scheming and Europa Universalis IV’s territorial management. As an Early Access project, some systems—especially culture, religion, and AI behavior—remain subject to revision, so players should expect a developing strategy game rather than a finished historical epic. It best suits grand-strategy veterans who enjoy studying maps, managing unstable realms, and creating alternate history, though its regional focus may also make it a more approachable starting point than a globe-spanning campaign.
