Commandos: Origins

A squad of six specialists operates behind enemy lines in a WWII campaign built around patience, timing, and ruthless efficiency. Commandos: Origins returns to the series’ real-time tactics roots by showing how its famous unit first comes together, sending the Green Beret and his future teammates into raids, rescues, sabotage jobs, and deep infiltration missions. The tone is tense rather than explosive: a single careless patrol route, alarm, or misplaced body can turn a clean operation into a desperate escape. Its battlefields stretch from frozen Arctic outposts to North African deserts and occupied European strongholds, giving each assignment a distinct military atmosphere.

Players command the Green Beret, Sapper, Sniper, Driver, Marine, and Spy, each bringing tools and talents no one else can replace. Missions revolve around studying guard patterns, scouting sightlines, slipping through restricted zones, neutralizing enemies quietly, stealing uniforms, planting explosives, and using terrain or vehicles to create openings. Success rarely comes from brute force; the key is combining abilities, such as using distractions to clear a sniper’s shot or positioning several commandos to execute synchronized actions at once. More than ten missions include primary goals alongside optional objectives, while flexible environments encourage experimentation through hiding spots, climbable routes, enemy facilities, and transport. Two players can divide the squad in online or local split-screen co-op, which makes complicated plans easier to coordinate—or more chaotic when they collapse.

What separates Origins from many modern strategy games is its focus on small-scale, handcrafted stealth puzzles rather than base-building or army management. Every guard, doorway, patrol path, and piece of cover matters, creating the satisfying trial-and-error tension associated with the classic Commandos games. Modernized controls and clearer coordination tools aim to make that demanding formula less awkward without removing its deliberate pace.
