Purgatory is a grotesque canvas of bleeding color, dead gods, malformed pilgrims, and spiteful little grudges in Brutal Orchestra. You begin dead, cheated out of life by an unknown killer, then strike a bargain with a demon to hunt them down across an afterlife that is equal parts miserable, funny, and deeply unsettling. Combat revolves around Pigment, a color-coded resource that powers attacks, spells, healing, and strange utility moves. Every party member has a distinct skill set and relationship with particular colors, so success comes from arranging a team whose abilities feed into each other rather than merely picking the hardest hitters. Runs send you through branching routes filled with fights, shops, unpredictable events, recruits, and ancient equipment, while permanent unlocks gradually expand the pool of characters, items, and possible strategies. Positioning matters, status effects can quickly spiral out of control, and enemies often punish careless resource spending, making each battle feel more like solving a nasty tactical puzzle than winning a war of attrition.

What makes Brutal Orchestra memorable is how confidently it commits to its ugliness: its hand-drawn world looks alive in the worst possible way, full of twitching flesh, warped faces, and sickly painted scenery. The deck-building influence is present in the way you assemble abilities, equipment, and party combinations over a run, but it never loses sight of its focused squad-based combat.
