Bloodwash

A late-night laundry run becomes a claustrophobic descent into urban paranoia in Bloodwash, a short first-person horror story steeped in grimy giallo cinema. Sara, a pregnant college student living in a decaying apartment building with her unreliable boyfriend, only wants clean clothes before the night ends. Outside, the city is gripped by fear of the Womb Ripper, a murderer targeting pregnant women, and the isolated 24-hour laundromat feels like exactly the wrong place to be alone. The mood is relentlessly filthy, uncomfortable, and deliberately trashy in the best VHS-era slasher tradition.

Most of the experience revolves around moving through apartments, streets, shops, and the laundromat itself, speaking with unsettling strangers and handling ordinary errands while the tension steadily rises. Bloodwash favors environmental storytelling and slow-burn suspense over elaborate combat systems, using its first-person view to make every hallway, parking lot, and shadowy corner feel dangerous. Players inspect surroundings, follow narrative clues, and endure scripted encounters as the killer’s presence becomes harder to ignore. Its focused one-to-two-hour length keeps the pacing tight, making it well suited to a single unnerving evening rather than a long campaign full of side activities or progression trees.

The standout feature is its convincing imitation of low-budget 1990s horror: blocky PS1-style models, harsh lighting, oppressive sound design, and optional VHS presentation turn technical roughness into atmosphere. Rather than aiming for polished realism, it embraces the look of a battered cult tape discovered at the back of a video store, complete with sleaze, gore, and a distinctly anxious social setting. The story’s pregnancy-focused threat can be disturbing, but it gives Sara’s vulnerability and the surrounding danger real weight. Fans of Puppet Combo’s other retro horrors, Italian giallo thrillers, or stripped-down psychological slashers will find plenty to appreciate, while newcomers should expect a brief narrative fright rather than an action-heavy survival horror challenge.
