Blocks!: Richard III

England's Wars of the Roses become a tense contest of succession, alliances, and battlefield nerve in Blocks!: Richard III. This indie historical wargame pits Lancaster against York as both houses struggle to claim a throne that can change hands repeatedly over the course of a campaign. Famous figures including Henry VI, Margaret of Anjou, Edward IV, Richard III, Henry VII, and Warwick the Kingmaker turn the conflict into more than a simple red-versus-white civil war. The mood is strategic and suitably ruthless: a victory won in battle can still unravel when powerful nobles decide their loyalties lie elsewhere.

Players command either faction across a map of fifteenth-century England, moving forces, committing leaders, and choosing where to risk decisive confrontations. The central objective is not merely territorial expansion; eliminating the opposing side's five heirs and securing the support of England's major nobles are equally vital routes to victory. York begins from exile and must mount an invasion, while Lancaster starts with the crown but has to defend its fragile authority against mounting pressure.
