Game Overview
A city builder set atop a colossal creature crossing the cosmos, Beyond These Stars turns settlement management into a relationship-driven survival story. Your Peeps arrive on Kewa, a lonely space whale whose broad back offers shelter, limited resources, and an unusual new home rather than a blank planetary canvas. The mood is thoughtful and hopeful, with colorful sci-fi charm balanced by the pressure of preserving a fragile habitat. Every expansion carries a larger question: can your society prosper without harming the being that carries it through the stars?
Players lay out homes, workplaces, farms, extraction sites, and production networks while accounting for terrain, travel distance, and useful building placement combinations. Kewa’s surface initially provides only a small hospitable area, so terraforming becomes central to growth: canals bring water where it is needed, soil supports agriculture, and forests provide materials while helping sustain the atmosphere. As your population develops more demanding tastes, research opens advanced industry and forces you to manage increasingly involved supply chains. Mining too aggressively or neglecting the environment shrinks the usable habitat, so expansion means weighing local exploitation against establishing off-world outposts for additional resources.
Kewa is more than an animated map or a moving base; the whale has desires, moods, and its own reasons for choosing where to travel next. Building trust gives you greater influence over the journey and makes distant outposts less vulnerable to being abandoned when the whale leaves a star system. Encounters with alien societies introduce trade, technology, and side objectives, while the wider voyage gradually reveals the linked history of the Peeps and these enormous celestial travelers. Its strongest idea is the way it folds ecological responsibility into familiar city-building systems, making efficiency feel inseparable from empathy. Fans of Anno-style production planning, Surviving Mars, or the organic settlement design of Timberborn should find plenty to like, especially if they want a calmer but more morally attentive management game.
